Chesapeake RFC 17 - Maryland Exiles 33
Comments:
The game was well-played and fairly even from the start,
the difference being several costly Chesapeake penalties
which allowed the Exiles to go up 10-0 midway through
the first half. But Chesapeake was able to seize control
of the latter part of the half, with their backs scoring
two impressive tries to close the deficit to 12-13.
This shift in momemtum served as a wake-up call to the
Exiles during the intermission, as they started out the
second half denying Chesapeake numerous scoring
opportunities as well as padding their lead with two
penalty kicks. By the latter part of the half they had
broken the game open, adding two tries to extend their
lead to 33-10. Chesapeake's final try came in the waning
minutes, making the score 33-17, by which time the match
was already effectively over.
By virtue of this win the Maryland Exiles advance to
the national club tournament, filling out the third of
the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Union's three seeds in the 16-team
field.
